The Kelly Brush Foundation in Burlington, VT. Empowering people with spinal cord injuries to lead active and engaged lives. KBF Is an incredible organization dedicated to helping the spinal cord injured community to get of their wheelchairs and out on the ski slopes, bike trails, do adaptive climbing, wheelchair backetball, rugby and much more. -The Kelly Brush Foundation helps people with spinal cord injuries SCI get out, be active, and find independence and fulfillment in life post-injury. After an SCI, the barriers to getting active are real – physical, financial, and logistical. The KBF’s Path2Active breaks down those barriers by providing financial support to: -Organizations seeking to offer new programs -Individuals seeking to get active through adaptive sports programs- Kelly’s was skiing for the Middlebury College NCAA Alpine Ski Team on February 18, 2006 on the second day of the Williams College Carnival. Kelly came over a knoll and caught an edge on an icy patch. Her ski edge grabbed and she was catapulted off the trail, striking a lift tower stanchion. She severely damaged her spinal cord injury at the T 7-8 level, fractured 4 ribs, fractured a vertebra in her neck, and a collapsed a lung. After she spent the next two and a half months undergoing rigorous rehabilitation for what would become her new life in a wheelchair. She left Craig Rehabilitation Hospital in Denver, Colorado, to navigate life’s new challenges with the same tenacious spirit that had been the root of her prior athletic successes.
